Remember the name Ayoka Lee, because she's poised to be a future superstar in women's basketball.
For those who don't know who this extremely talented young lady is, Ayoka Lee is a 6-foot-6 center playing for the Kansas State Wildcats. Unfortunately, though, the incoming senior will miss the upcoming season after undergoing surgery on her knee back in August.
But Ayoka Lee will be back for the 2023-24 season as she completes her graduate degree - and continues her rise to basketball superstardom.
Prior to her surgery setback, Ayoka Lee had been well on her way to the top. She averaged a double-double of 22 points and 10.3 rebounds in 33 games during her junior season.
Her most notable performance was her record-breaking game in Kansas State’s 94-65 win over then-No. 14 Oklahoma. Ayoka Lee scored 61 points to set the NCAA women’s basketball single-game points record, topping the previous mark of 60 points held by Cindy Brown of Long Beach State and Rachel Banham of Minnesota.
But Ayoka Lee is more than just a scorer. She is also an excellent defensive player; she had a team-leading 95 blocks in her junior year and made the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
Despite being eligible to enter the WNBA Draft, Lee opted to return to school to finish her graduate degree, which is laudable. But when she does decide to go pro, she is sure to be a top-five pick, and with the well-rounded skill set she has shown in college, it’s just a matter of time before she becomes one of the top stars in women’s basketball.
