The bodybuilder and internet personality Rich Piana passed away at 46 in 2017, leaving aftermath along with a receipt for prospective contenders.
He used Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) at 18 and was a teenager who entered the bodybuilding world because his mother asked him to. Then, Piana was open about his steroid and drug use, which worried many health advocates.
The Disturbances That Led to His Downfall and Death
In the days before his ultimate death, fans had been getting updates on Piana's health courtesy of Jansen — who was pegged as his girlfriend for over five years.
The charismatic Piana, who showed cautionary symptoms like having trouble breathing and vomiting, was sure he could come back stronger than before — even telling his fans a week before death that nothing could hold him down.
But, his physical health was still an issue and during the next week, he had a massive heart attack, and fell to the floor paralyzed.
Autopsy results revealed he was suffering a "quite impressive" form of idiopathic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which causes the heart to enlarge and harden arteries.
Health and Hazards of Substance
The blowback on this lad's body from taking steroids for nearly 30 years is hypocrisy in practice and a cautionary tale to all the blokes who would like a similar look.
That, to successive point totals, represents how much bigger his heart and liver both were than a standard person, he says — as stark an example of the dangers posed by substance abuse.
