Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea, is easily one of the top legends in professional wrestling. Although his in-ring life has been well documented, his family and children are less known. Here, we look at the life of Hulk Hogan's children, Brooke and Nick.
The Hogan Family Overview
Hulk Hogan was married twice and has two children from his first marriage. His family also entered the public spotlight with his reality show "Hogan Knows Best," aired from 2005 to 2007.
Brooke Hogan
Personal Life and Career Early Life
Brooke Ellen Bollea, professionally known as Brooke Hogan, was born on May 5, 1988, in Tampa, Florida. Brooke, the eldest of Hulk Hogan and his first wife Linda Claridge's children was raised in the shadow of her father's wrestling stardom.
Music and Television Career
Music was Brooke's initial entrance to the entertainment business. It revealed noticeable pop and R&B influences, with Brooke finally releasing her debut album "Undiscovered" in 2006. Lead single "About Us" featuring Paul Wall entered the top 40 of Billboard Hot 100.
Besides her singing career, Brooke has participated in few television shows. She starred in her reality show, Brooke Knows Best, which aired from 2008 to 2009. The series followed Brooke as she left her parents' house and started a career in Miami.
Nick Hogan
Early Life and Career
Nick Hogan, real name Nicholas Allan Bollea, was born in Tampa, Florida, on July 27, 1990. Nick, the only son and youngest child of Hulk Hogan, experienced a young life in which he was quite literally groomed for showbiz.
Career in Racing and Legal Trouble
Nick developed a passion for motorsports and cars from an early age. He took up Formula Drift, a discipline characterized by controlled oversteer and drifts when he was barely out of his teens. But a horrific incident in 2007 riddled his car racing career.
Nick was involved in a serious car accident in Clearwater, Florida, on August 26, 2007. Reportedly, he had his dad's Toyota Supra, and it was when he was at the wheel that he allegedly spun out into a palm tree. The crash left his passenger, John Graziano, critically injured, and he has been in a semi-conscious state since the incident. Leah was struck by a car driven by Nick, then 17, who later pleaded no contest to reckless driving with serious bodily injury and served eight months in jail.
Work-Family Balance/Public scrutiny
The Impact of Reality TV
Reality television presented the Hogan family with both opportunities and challenges. While Hogan Knows Best gave Brooke and Nick a platform for their careers, it also put the family in front of millions, its most explicit episodes exposing parts of itself altogether publicly.
The Impact Of A Divorce On The children
The divorce of Hulk Hogan and Linda Claridge in 2009 played a huge part in how things fell apart for the Hogans. The proceedings were well publicized, with Brooke and Nick stuck in the studios' crosshairs as their parents battled it out. The Hogan children were all in very different places during this point.
Public image and controversies
The Hogan family has also dealt with much controversy over the years, such as Hulk's sex tape scandal and the lawsuit against Gawker Media that followed. Among the series of events, there is no doubt that these actions had a very public effect on Brooke and Nick.
The Hogan Legacy in Wrestling
Neither Brooke nor Nick has pursued a full-time career as professional wrestlers in their father's footsteps, but both have somewhat entered the business.
Brooke worked for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) from 2012 to 2013, serving as an on-screen authority figure and storyline commissioner of the Knockouts division. Her sporadic WWE appearances are usually cameos to help further her father's feuds.
Although Nick was never very active in wrestling, he has been seen at different wrestling events and always came to his father's defense. Reflecting on his father's "undeniable" legacy during an interview in 2019, Nick said, "My dad was very influential. He changed the game."
Hulk Hogan's bloodline, most notably daughter Brooke and son Nick, shows the trials and tribulations faced when you grow up a wrestler at rest with his old-school pedigree. They have been navigating challenges and opportunities particular to their celebrity family background.
Brooke has made a name for herself in the entertainment business while managing her music career, television gigs, and some work in wrestling. Although Nick had some legal trouble early on, he did his best to grow from it and repair his relationship with his father.
The struggle of the most famous family in wrestling is an inside look at how reputation and troubling issues can rip through all facets of life under a microscope. While Hulk Hogan's wrestling legacy is widely celebrated, his kids still endure the soap opera of being a part of his flesh-and-blood family and wearing the legendary name.
