Veterans have not gotten a good reputation in the past few months of the WNBA season. A lot of them seem to be getting tired of talking about the 2024 WNBA Draft Class, especially about Caitlin Clark and her impact. However, Kia Nurse is not letting all of this noise from the outside affect one of her goals with the Los Angeles Sparks and the association - becoming a great mentor.
Making it to the WNBA as a guard is very difficult, staying has also become the tougher challenge over the years. Kia Nurse has managed to do just fine amid all of the new talents entering and developing in the WNBA. Despite getting traded away from the Seattle Storm, she is still making the same impact on and off the court with the Sparks.
In particular, Nurse is mentoring young players and honing their skills such that they are able to make it big in the WNBA. She even got real as to why this became her life's mission: "In Canada and at UConn, I was surrounded by great leaders. I feel like I’m on the bridge between being here for a long time and also understanding the language of a rookie. I’m also still on the younger side and understand what it’s like to be anxious. I also understand that different rookies have different forms of communication that get the best results."
In 2025, she will be entering her seventh season in the WNBA and her second run with the Sparks. Hopefully, she will take more great talents under her wing such that the women's game continues to grow.
