Victor Wembanyama already has an NBA Rookie of the Year award and an Olympic silver medal in his resume, and he's just getting started. According to ESPN's Summer Forecast panel, the San Antonio Spurs center is bound for bigger things this upcoming season.
ESPN listed Wembanyama as the top candidate to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year and the Most Improved Player of the Year trophies.
The 20-year-old received 76 points (67 percent first-place votes) for the DPOY award, well above his fellow Frenchman, Rudy Gobert, who has 29 points (five percent first-place votes). Wemby is also tied with Oklahoma City Thunder's Jalen Williams in the MIP voting, as they both got 26 points.
Big year ahead for Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs
Victor Wembanyama took the NBA by storm in his debut season, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and a league-high 3.6 blocks in 71 regular season games.
Despite this, the San Antonio Spurs finished with the second-worst record in the Western Conference at 22-60.
With the summer acquisitions of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, the San Antonio Spurs hope to win more games next season while helping in Wemby's development.
