France had to settle for a second consecutive silver medal after losing 98-87 to Team USA during Saturday's men's Olympic basketball final.
Victor Wembanyama was the bright spot for Les Bleus, turning his best performance in the tournament, with 26 points, seven rebounds, and two assists against an NBA-laden USA squad.
The loss will surely sting France because they've been so close, but they're in a great position to dethrone Team USA in the upcoming Los Angeles Games potentially.
Victor Wembanyama is poised to lead the charge, and he'll likely have Bilal Coulibaly, Zaccharie Risacher, and Alex Sarr on his side in 2028.
Victor Wembanyama's warning to his opponents
Speaking to Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News, Wembanyama said that he is just getting started.
“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in the next couple of years," Wembanyama said.
When Finger asked if he meant FIBA opponents or the NBA, Wembanyama replied "everywhere."
Victor Wembanyama put the Americans on notice with his fine performance in the gold medal match. In his Olympic debut, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year finished his campaign with averages of 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks per contest in six games.
