Alpine has gone through a massive overhaul in the past 365 days. They fired Otmar Szafnauer and got blasted by Alain Prost with the way Laurent Rossi has handled his post. The French F1 team also encountered a lot of internal issues between drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly in the past few races. It surely is not a good look for the new members of the ownership group like Ryan Reynolds, Patrick Mahomes, Rob McElhenny, and Travis Kelce among others.
While all of this happens in the background, Alpine might be making it up to their new owners. The beloved merc with a mouth will be teaming up with Hugh Jackson on theaters as Disney releases Deadpool & Wolverine. As a result, the team will be using a special livery for the F1 Belgian Grand Prix.
It is not only the car that will get new colors. Esteban Ocon will be wearing a helmet that resembles Deadpool at Spa-Francorchamps. Meanwhile, an emotional weekend will lie ahead of Pierre Gasly as he revisits the site where his close friend, Jules Bianchi, had his unfortunate accident nearly a decade ago. Gasly will also be wearing a Wolverine-inspired helmet to help promote the movie, per Nate Saunders of ESPN.
It is worth noting that Reynolds and Rob McElhenny will also be celebrating their first year of being part of the Alpine F1 team during the Belgian Grand Prix. However, the team has not been able to achieve much success during the time that they purchased 24% of the organization’s equity.
Entering the Belgian GP, Gasly is only 15th in the F1 World Drivers’ Championship standings. Ocon, on the other hand, is way down at 18th. Their numbers add up to a meager nine championship points. This means that Alpine sits eighth in the World Constructors’ Championship. Only the struggling Kick Sauber F1 team and Williams are behind them in the rankings.
