How Red Bull’s RB17 came to be in Adrian Newey’s head

It is no secret that Max Verstappen exceeded expectations and became a generational driver under the Red Bull Racing program. He is chasing the legacies of Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, and Lewis Hamilton despite being just 26 years old. However, it is also the effort that Christian Horner puts in when it comes to organizing his team and the marvelous engineering work that Adrian Newey churns out that makes a difference. The new models of the RB F1 car might be great but the revered engineer had a dream that made it to life.
Adrian Newey, along with other Formula 1 fans, posits that the RB17 is the Red Bull engineer’s magnum opus. Now, that very same type of speed has been placed on a hypercar. The championship-winning engineer outlined just how fast this car with a V10 muscle would have gone when pitted up against the current F1 grid, via Luke Smith of The Athletic.
“The adrenaline rush and the speed and the excitement, and the trepidation, is kind of on another level. Our forecast is that it would have been on pole at Silverstone by a small amount, a second or so. Obviously, it’s a simulation. But generally speaking, driver-in-the-loop simulations are now pretty good. So it certainly should be in that ballpark,” he declared.
This dream came when as a Christman holiday project and it has now become one of the best techical marvels to have been made.
"I was in the Alps, and the snow was quite bad. So I started sketching a no-rules Formula One car. To keep me fresh and looking at different things, I do find it important to have different aspects to be engaged in,” Newey said.
The RB17 is street-legal but it will set someone back quite a bit financially. It is estimated to cost at least $7 million and only 50 of the car will be made. Understandably, the price is going to skyrocket by quite a lot once the RB17 hits the market because of how many Red Bull Racing fans would want to feel like Max Verstappen on the road.
