The 2025 season for Justin Fields is huge!

The 2025 season for Justin Fields is huge!

The New York Jets are making changes off the field but it is on the field that they must show their worth this season. One player in particular who needs to perform on the field is the man aptly named Justin Fields; the 26-year-old has to be the key man this year if the Jets are going to make a go of the season.

The playoffs are a minimum expectation for the Jets this year, and they will be showcased globally this year. With the Jets game against the Denver Broncos being hosted in London this year, and tickets available for the game with Ticket-Compare.com, Fields will be put under the spotlight with an English crowd as well an American one this year.

Why is 2025 a big year for Fields?

Fields is one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the entire league and has been since he joined it in 2021, being drafted by the Chicago Bears. With flashes of excitement and elite talent, fans are obsessed with the progression of Fields. He has the ability to cause chaos for the opposition back line with his powerful throws, but his inconsistency leads to questions from pundits and fans alike.

Fields will want to quell any murmurings of being a “what could have been” player in the NFL. At 26, he is no longer a rookie, and with this recent move to the Jets, it is an ideal opportunity to establish himself among the highest-ranking quarterbacks in the league.

His career so far

It has not been plain sailing in the NFL for Fields. Having been drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021, he struggled to establish himself in the league but also in a side that was chopping and changing far too much for a young man to build consistency. In 2022, he rushed for over 1,100 yards, the second-most by a quarterback in a single season. But while he was electric on the ground, it was his passing game that needed much improvement.

However, the Bears decided he would be moved on due to the ambitions of a full rebuild and Fields headed for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If at the Bears he struggled for an offensive line coach to teach him the ways of the game, he certainly did not at the Steelers. His new offensive coordinator, Zac Robinson, known for his simplistic approach to the game, was thought to be the answer. Yet Fields could not get all the game time he wanted. After deputising for the injured Russell Wilson, he was shifted out of the team again when he was fit and was backup.

A move to the Jets is a great move

The Jets are on the back of a disappointing season and after Aaron Rodgers’ injuries and the failed Zach Wilson experiment, Fields becomes the latest quarterback tasked with leading the Jets out of mediocrity.

The Jets do not need a full reset, but they need a new conductor, one who will get the offensive line playing to the same tune;  Justin Fields is believed to be that man and he may well be.

Last season's stats of completing 65% of his passes for 1,106 yards, 10 total touchdowns (five passing, five rushing) and just one interception, are not that convincing for his case but they add to the compelling uprising of Justin Fields. It will be taken into account that he appeared in a total of 10 games, starting just six.

General manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh believed a change of scenery, paired with a more stable coaching staff, could unlock Fields' potential. He needs to be nurtured, still,  and supported, but also he needs to be the main man now in his career. No playing second fiddle to anyone else, and he needs an environment to show he can be the main man.

He will get a lot of joy out of the fact that his new offensive line teammates are actually the best he will have played with, giving him the opportunity to thrive. Playing alongside Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Mike Williams and Xavier Gipson will allow the mobile quarterback an opportunity to show of his skillset to the New York crowd.

Will it work out for Fields and the Jets?

The unification of Fields and the Jets is one that could prosper and is certainly a high-risk, high-reward strategy for the hope that Fields puts the Jets comfortably into the play offs. It could also mean if it does not work out then Fields ends up as a backup QB once again; something he will be looking to avoid at all costs.

However, he can avoid this if he avoids costly turnovers late in games, wins key divisional matchups, maximize red zone opportunities with both his arm and legs but most importantly stays healthy throughout the season. These key points could elevate Fields to the next level and ultimately elevate the Jets.

If Fields can also play on his explosive nature and his speed, it will certainly help in bringing success to himself and the Jets.
