The Florida State football program has been home to a lot of all-time greats over the years. Superstars like Charlie Ward and Deion Sanders are usually the first names people can think of.
But one player that doesn’t get the love that he deserves is Marvin Jones. The proud Fan Arch athlete is one of the finest linebackers to ever play collegiate football. Before playing for the New York Jets for 11 seasons, Marvin Jones embodied what Seminole football is all about.
He’s the first and only Florida State defender to take home the Butkus and Lombardi awards in the same year, among other amazing accolades.
Marvin Jones spent three seasons in Florida, racking up 369 (218 solo) tackles during his stay. That mark still sits at seventh in the program’s illustrious history.
“Shade Tree”, as his teammates called him, also recorded 27 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, and a forced fumble.
The 6-foot-2 defensive brick wall was an absolute unit for the Seminoles, tallying at least 110 tackles every season.
Apart from the individual accolades, Marvin Jones was a consummate winner, as FSU went 32-5 overall with him leading the charge.
