Why didn't Cooper Manning play football?

Cooper Manning, with his younger brothers Peyton and Eli on the field before a Saints-Jets game at Giants Stadium in December 1997. Even though both Peyton and Eli had remarkable football careers, Cooper was not a professional football player. Which begs the question: why didn't Cooper Manning play sports like Eli and Peyton did for a living?! Here we will discuss why Cooper Manning quit the football field and how his life has been.

Childhood and Dreams of Football Greatness

On March 6, 1974, a man was granted entryway into the world in New Orleans, Louisiana by the names Cooper Manning to a group of unmistakable American Rugby gunslingers. His father, Archie Manning played in the NFL as a quarterback and two of his brothers Peyton And Eli would become some on the greatest quarterbacks to play in an NFL uniform. From a young age, Cooper King had been immersed in the game of football and eventually he became emotionally invested.

Early Life, High School Football Career and Diagnosis

Manning went to Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, where he played football at a high level. He was a wide receiver who had been playing the majority ofthe game. However, his junior year proved to be the final one before that promising football career would quickly come crashing down. Because of a rare spinal condition called spinal stenosis, Cooper was forced to walk away from football because he could no longer risk putting his health on the line.

Medical Advice on Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is the term used to describe a condition in which the spinal canal, where your nerves and bones meet at your spine, has become narrow or "stenotic". They can cause symptoms like pain, numbness and weakness. For Cooper Manning, the condition was debilitating enough that further playing football put him at risk of paralysis.

Cooper's parents and doctors advised him not to play football because it might be too dangerous for someone with the condition. Undoubtably a tough decision for him because he loves the sport and saw what his brothers were doing on the field with football.

Life Beyond Football

While Cooper Manning never played football, he didn't allow his condition to become a handicap. He went on to college at the University of Mississippi, graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism. His classic charm and knack for narrative made the middle-aged Cooper a media star as he rose through the ranks.

Cooper Manning now works as a New Orleans energy trader and is actively involved in multiple charities. He is famous for his hilarious quotes and he does everything from commercials to being in different television shows as it happens way beyond just getting all the celebrity looks going.

Played a Reserve Role in His Brothers' Careers

Cooper Manning played football too minus the professional part, but he was instrumental in helping his brothers when they were at different junctures. And he became a rock of encouragement and support for both Peyton and Eli, cluing them in throughout their respective successes.

During Peyton and Eli's NFL careers, Cooper was notably a good brother. He went to nearly every match, supporting from the coldest of sideline fences and being there through both victories and losses. Though it may not have been on the field, Cooper certainly was a Manning family MVP who helped mold his little brothers into stars.

Family and Personal Life

More From Cooper Manning He adores his family. He is married to Ellen Manning, and they have three children. Though his family is in the spotlight, Cooper does a pretty good job of keeping details about himself and his personal life rather to himself. He revealed others because he values his privacy and wants to protect being a husband and father.

Since he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a condition that carried potentially fatal consequences if he continued to play the sport pub: Cooper Manning Deciding Not To Play Even though not playing professionally was a let down for him, Cooper became successful in life. He went on to a media career, nurtured his younger brothers' football journeys and led as head of the family with wife Debbie alongside him. Cooper Manning is still an example for a lot of people and has shown that you can overcome obstacles persevering through difficulty, also enjoying life far beyond the pigskin.
