Which Team Did the Best in Drafting in the 2025 NFL Draft?

The Green Bay 2025 NFL Draft was one of the craziest in years, featuring monster trades, hyped quarterback plunges, and a couple of franchises that made franchise-altering choices. Sure, some franchises aced, but there was one franchise that stood head and shoulders above all others in the balance of need, value, and potential: the New York Giants.

Why the Giants Won the 2025 NFL Draft

1. Plugging Premium Positions with Premium Talent

The Giants came into the draft with huge gaps at edge rusher, quarterback, and running back. They did not wait, taking Penn State's Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall selection. Carter, perhaps most comparable to Micah Parsons and Von Miller, was the class's premier pure edge defender with 13.5 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss last season. His pairing of strength and agility gives the Giants a building block to pair with Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence, immediately strengthening a defense that ranked at or near the bottom of the league in sacks in 2024.

Later during the first round, the Giants rolled the dice trading up to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25. Dart is no sure thing, but his athleticism and accuracy on downfield throws (grading in the 89th percentile or higher in several steady metrics) give coach Brian Daboll a high-ceilinged project to develop behind veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. This approach allows the Giants to be setting themselves up for the future without thrusting their rookie quarterback into the fire too early.

2. Value and Depth Throughout the Draft

The Giants didn’t stop at the top. In the third round, they added Darius Alexander, a disruptive defensive tackle from Toledo, and in the fourth, they snagged Cam Skattebo, a versatile running back out of Arizona State known for his hard-nosed style and pass-catching ability. These picks not only filled needs but also provided excellent value, with Alexander projected as a Day 2 talent and Skattebo offering immediate special teams and rotational upside.

By the end of the draft, New York had addressed both sides of the ball, adding Marcus Mbow (G, Purdue) for line depth and Thomas Fidone II (TE, Nebraska), a potential red-zone weapon, in the seventh round. The Giants’ ability to balance high-ceiling prospects with immediate contributors set their class apart.

3. Industry Consensus and High Grades

Analysts across the board praised the Giants’ approach. Sports Illustrated gave New York an A+ grade, noting that “after a miserable 2024, the Giants could soon be headed in the right direction after delivering an impressive draft class filled with talent and filled needs.” The Draft Network and CBS Sports echoed this sentiment, highlighting Carter as a future game-wrecker and Dart as a worthy developmental QB.

Statistically, the Giants ranked fourth in Sports Info Solutions’ draft class rankings, with a 6.34 grade-trailing only the Browns, Falcons, and Bengals, but with more picks and impact players at premium positions than any of those clubs. USA Today also included New York in its top three, calling their class “a blueprint for how to rebuild a roster in one weekend.”

4. Fit and Future Outlook

The Giants’ draft wasn’t just about talent-it was about fit. Carter’s skill set meshes perfectly with defensive coordinator Shane Bowen’s aggressive scheme. Dart’s mobility and arm strength align with Daboll’s offensive philosophy. And the depth pieces provide insurance and upside for a roster that’s been plagued by injuries in recent years.

As one NFC executive told SI, “The Giants nailed it. They got their edge rusher, a quarterback to develop, and didn’t reach for need. That’s how you build a contender.”

Honorable Mentions

The Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also earned high marks for their 2025 draft hauls. The Browns found incredible value with Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, while the Falcons landed two athletic pass rushers, and the Bucs continued their trend of strong drafting under GM Jason Licht.

But when it comes to a combination of star power, value, and long-term upside, the New York Giants’ 2025 draft class stands out as the best of the year. If these picks develop as expected, Big Blue may have laid the foundation for its next great era.
