What’s the deal with Aaron Rodgers?

Aaron Rodgers is still currently a free agent, but there are teams that seem to be interested in signing the 41-year-old quarterback. However, does Rodgers want to even play in the 2025 season?
Two teams that seem to have an interest in Rodgers are the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings would be funny because would be following the same blueprint as his former teammate Brett Favre who also played for the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.
Joining the Steelers would make the most sense since they don’t have a real starting QB on their roster and just acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf, who will be paired up with another talented receiver in George Pickens.
As per usual, Rodgers is once again taking his sweet time to make a decision about his plans for 2025. He’s taking long walks on the beach, doing darkness retreats and being extremely vague about the situation.
Rodgers surely likes to make things difficult, just like he did with his eventual decision to sign with the Jets. Rodgers’ actions has drawn the ire of current Steelers player Cam Heyward who spoke about the Rodgers situation on his podcast “Not Just Football.”
“I ain't doing that darkness retreat,” Heyward said in a response to a question from his co-host Hayden Walsh. “I don't need any of that crap. Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't. It's that simple. That's the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that's the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers. If you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don't, no skin off my back.”
The whole situation has made Heyward indifferent about whether or not Rodgers will be joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now the Minnesota Vikings don’t really care either if Aaron Rodgers joins their team or not.
The Vikings are likely the team that Rodgers really wants to sign with, but it doesn’t seem that Minnesota is really interested in Rodgers.
The Vikings do need a veteran quarterback, but Aaron Rodgers is not who they’re looking for. The team already has young QB JJ McCarthy on their roster and he’s likely to start for Minnesota in 2025.
That being the case, Minnesota would like to sign a guy that can mentor McCarthy as he continues to develop. Signing Rodgers means you’d be getting a self-absorbed QB whose priority isn’t to mentor McCarthy.
Regardless of what he decides, Rodgers needs to be careful. If Rodgers is pulling all of his same old stunts that he did when he signed with the Jets and it plays out just like it did in NY, then it’s very likely that we’ll be seeing the last of Aaron Rodgers in a NFL uniform.
