Since retiring, the former field general of the Dallas Cowboys has become quite successful in business. Following Aikman's on-field success, he has made significant investments that have bulked up his massive fortune, ranging from partnerships to business endeavors.
Wingstop
Among Aikman's original investments, his investment into a restaurant chain Wingstop is a particularly well-known business venture. Aikman is a minority owner in the company and has been involved since its early days, seeing the potential for a fast-casual wing concept. Aikman's foray into Wingstop has been one of the most profitable investments made by a football player to date. The company expanded and grew, going public in 2015.
Aside from Wingstop, Aikman became a partner in health and wellness company ID Life and purchased an interest, albeit low, in another enterprise. By investing in a number of diversified areas, Aikman is showing off his business acumen and ability to see opportunities beyond the gridiron.
Troy Aikman Automall
The same entrepreneurial spirit that has propelled Aikman into the automotive industry. In the early '00s, he opened Troy Aikman Automall car dealership, which sold brands including Chevrolet, Jeep, and Chrysler. However, in 2001, Aikman sold a portion of the dealership after his playing days were done.
Charitable Endeavors
In addition to running the businesses he had built up, Aikman also spent a portion of his time and investments on philanthropy. He is the chairman of the Troy Aikman Foundation for Kids charity, which builds children's hospitals in North Texas. His dedication to making a difference in the world and standing up for important causes has helped him earn these distinctions as more than just an athlete.
Sports broadcasting & Media ventures
Aikman parlayed his greatness as a quarterback into an outstanding post-NFL career in broadcasting and commentating. He is an analyst for Fox Sports on NFL telecasts and has been awarded three Emmys. With his skills and insights, he has been an invaluable addition to the network, and he reportedly commanded a massive salary when signing his most recent deal with ESPN for Monday Night Football.
EIGHT Light Beer
Aikman began his coffee liqueur brand, EIGHT, in 2022, currently sold exclusively in Texas. Working with industry veterans, the former quarterback developed a "better-for-you beer" made from organic ingredients and low in calories. The beer is another example of Aikman's entrepreneurship and skill at spotting and striking the right trend.
Real Estate Investments
Aikman's real estate investing includes strategic investments in real estate throughout his career. That same year, he also bought a French Normandy-style mansion in Texas for $4.5 million before putting it on the market two years later. Aikman's real estate holdings prove that he has well-diversified investments and is using his wealth to create more income-producing assets.
Troy Aikman's transition from the NFL to business included years of investing and partnerships. With early bets in Wingstop to a more recent plunge with the launch of EIGHT light beer, Aikman has shown he is fearless in going where few others would venture, and what just so happens turned out right for him all too frequently.
Coupled with his business acumen off the field, his philanthropic endeavors, and his successful broadcasting career, Aikman has become an accomplished man far beyond what he did on a football field. Yet, as Aikman looks to expand into new horizons, his story illustrates a successful blueprint for any aspiring athlete or entrepreneur in the business world.
