Robert Saleh and the New York Jets clearly do not want a repeat of last season’s disaster. Their Super Bowl window when they acquired Aaron Rodgers has been rapidly closing shut and they need to take advantage of his last few good years. However, the start to their preseason preparations has not been the most ideal because their veteran signal-caller was not present at all.
Aaron Rodgers has not been participating in the Jets training camp. Apparently, he has gone on a vacation to Egypt instead of tending to his role with the Robert Saleh-led squad. This raised a lot of concern within the organization and their fans because he was clearly not holding out for anything big like a contract extension, unlike other players.
Rodgers went out to address why he thinks these ‘mandatory’ minicamps were not at all necessary. He aired out his true feelings on it during his appearance on Pardon My Take presented by Barstool Sports.
"They can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want and say, 'This is the minicamp week,' which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks. But it was an OTA schedule. That's how words can be a little deceiving from time to time. They can make a story out of the fact that I missed minicamp, but it was really two OTA days, but I came to the first 10," he said.
Rodgers noted that he is very sure that the Jets organization will hand him a fine for missing the crucial practices. Will he be able to build enough on-field chemistry with Saleh’s squad after he suffered his left Achilles heel last season?
