Top 5 Hispanic Players in the NFL You Should Know

Sports is a big part of Hispanic culture, and when I moved to America, I was glad to see that the passion for sports is the same, if not bigger, here too. We’ve got a ton of fans of basketball, baseball, and my favorite, American Football.
From the pre-game celebrations to the thrill of a last-minute touchdown, American Football promises a ticket to a good time any day, and this season is going to be no different. I’ve already rung the telefono de Xfinity, my local internet service provider, for an upgrade to my internet plan to catch all the games uninterrupted.
But what I love the most about the game is that there are a lot of Hispanic players killing it in the NFL. As a Hispanic man, seeing my people make it big anywhere is always a moment of pride for me. Below, I’m going to highlight some of the best players in the NFL, hopefully I’ll see them playing this season.
Let’s kick it off!
1. Federico Anthony Warner
If his haircut doesn’t wow you, his talent on the field sure will. Kind of like the Juggernaut from X-Men, Federico is an unstoppable killer at tackling. In his rookie season as a starter, he bagged 11 tackles, along with one pass deflection and a forced fumble. Talk about kicking things off with a bang! Six seasons later, he has a whopping 115 tackles to his name and has played two Super Bowls.
His powerful tackles, sideline-to-sideline range, and ability to disrupt passing plays have all established the Mexican Panamanian linebacker as one of the most valuable players for his team, the 49ers. Yes, you can catch him playing this season, too. September is just two months away!
2. Isiah Pacheco
If ever lightning were a person, it would still be second to Isiah Pacheco’s fast, powerful, and explosive running style on the field. The Puerto Rican sensation started his blazing career as a running back for the Chiefs during their 2022 Super Bowl LVII matches.
Fast forward a year to the Super Bowl LVIII, and we saw him again channel his supersonic speed and power for his team, from the run game to the crucial matches. I mean, how could you forget him finishing with 92 yards of total offense, 59 rushing yards, and 33 receiving? The result? A groundbreaking 25 to 22 victory over the 49ers. His talent has established him as the only running back ever to win back-to-back Super Bowls in their first two seasons. Hopefully, he’ll kill it and break some new records this season too!
3. Chris Olave
You know a player’s going to be great when they get picked up in the first round of draft picks, and Chris Olave is one such player. With a great college-level record, he displayed his skills in the 2022 NFL Combine and was instantly plucked to roll with the big boys. The best part? He kept up brilliantly, proving he is right where he should be.
The Cuban American now plays as a leading wide receiver for the Saints. During his career, he has received PFWA All-Rookie honors in 2022, and even crossed a 1,000 receiving yards in his first two seasons. You’ll be seeing his unmatched route-running, downfield tracking, and separation skills once again this season.
4. Cesar Ruiz
Another great name from the Saints! If you’re a Saints fan, you already know that if there’s one player you can ever count on to get things right, it’s Cesar Ruiz. His career is filled with consistently great performances, all of which have established him as a must-have on the team’s offensive line.
The Dominican Puerto Rican star plays as an offensive lineman, with the role of protecting quarterback Derek Carr and opening up running lanes for the team’s backfield. You've got to give a shoutout to his versatility, too, because he can take up any position on the offensive line and kill it effortlessly. Considering all that, you shouldn’t be surprised he’s going to play with the team for another four years.
5. Cairo Santos
Cairo Santos will have you believing in fate, because before he was an NFL player, he was a Brazilian high school soccer player with an amazing kick, a skill that would lead to his illustrious career in the league. Oh, and did I mention that he is also the first Brazilian-born star to join the league? Glad that happened!
Like Cesar Ruiz, Cairo Santos is also no stranger to being a reliable force for his team, the Bears. His Superman-level leg strength and accuracy have led to him becoming one of the most reliable and consistently well-performing placekickers in the NFL. He’s bagged many records and recognitions, such as becoming the only bear to make 27 consecutive goals in 2020 or being named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month in November 2023. He’s on this season, and hopefully he’ll bag some more.
