Jordan Love is in the middle of his second season as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. He spent his first three seasons as a backup behind Aaron Rodgers and it’s safe to say that it was a strategy done well by the Packers.
Love took over the starting duties after Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay in 2023. In his first season as a starter for the Packers Love amassed a 9-8 record and made a playoff appearance.
Love even won a playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys in last year’s wild card round. The Packers run would come to end the very next week in the divisional round against the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers.
Love’s successful 2023 season earned him a contract extension with Green Bay: four-years for $220 million.
Love was previously under his rookie contract which was for four-years $12.38 million. Before his major extension, Love had concluded his rookie contract before the 2024 season and had an estimated net worth of $12 million.
In lieu of the fifth-year option on his contract, The Packers originally gave Love a one-year extension worth $22.5 million that took care of the 2024 season.
After signing his big $220 million contract, Love’s net worth for the 2024 season jumped up to $55 million per year.
Love’s annual value tied him for the highest average annual salary in the NFL. The deal also included a $75 million signing bonus and $155 million guaranteed money.
Love currently has no endorsement deals at the moment, but is beginning to attract some deals. His emerging presence in the league will enhance his chances at getting a deal and furthering his yearly income.
Initially, the contract looked to be a major bust for the Packers as Love suffered a MCL sprain in the first game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury caused Love to miss two games and had backup quarterback Malik Willis take his place.
Willis was able to win two games for the Packers before Love’s return. Since his return, Love has gone 4-2 in six starts.
The Packers are currently 6-3 and hold the final spot in the wild card race. In seven total starts this season, Love has thrown 15 touchdown passess and 10 interceptions for 1,820 passing yards.
It turns out that Love’s contract won’t be a total bust for the Packers as he continues to lead the team. However, Love’s dual threat ability has significantly dwindled down this season.
Last season, Love rushed for four touchdowns and had 247 rushing yards on 50 attempts. This year in just seven games played, Love has run the ball for himself only 13 times for 50 yards and has yet to run in a touchdown this year.
It’s obvious that Love’s MCL injury has hurt his rushing ability. However, the $220 million quarterback is still playing well despite the injury.
Despite being in a tough NFC north division, the Packers are currently 6-3 this year and look to be contending for the playoffs for the foreseeable future.
