The NFL has just concluded its regular season and the 14 teams heading to the playoffs are set. The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos are representing the AFC.
Representing the NFC are the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers.
The Chiefs have represented the AFC in four of the last five Super Bowls and have gone on to win in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Kansas City once again holds the top seed in the AFC and look to advance and win their third consecutive championship.
For the first time in franchise history, the Lions will have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Detroit has never been to the Super Bowl and they’re the heavy favorites in the NFC to represent them in the big game.
The Lions came close to their first Super Bowl berth last season, but unfortunately suffered a heart-breaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game.
This time around, the NFC will have to run through Detroit in order to reach the big game. The Lions will not have an easy path to the Super Bowl, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles will be the Lions biggest challenger throughout the tournament.
Not only the Eagles, but Minnesota could upset the Lions as well. Unfortunately the Vikings will be on the road for most of the postseason and just came off a devastating 31-9 loss to Detroit in the regular season finale.
While teams like the Bucs, Commanders, Packers and Rams are considered big underdogs, crazier things have happened in the past. It’s the beginning of a new season and these aforementioned teams have a chance just like the favorites.
In the AFC, experts and fans believe the Chiefs will once again repeat. However, the 2024 Chiefs are not as strong as the 2023 or 2022 Chiefs.
Despite the better record, it can be argued that Bills, Ravens and even the Chargers all seem like a better team than Kansas City. Both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have had MVP caliber seasons and are looking to finally dethrone Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
While Baltimore and Buffalo seem like the favorites to take down the all-mighty Chiefs, anyone in the AFC playoff bracket has a chance like anyone else.
Two teams to be on the lookout in the upcoming Wild Card round are the Broncos and Commanders. Both teams will be using rookie quarterbacks during the playoffs, Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels.
Both teams are ending years-long playoff droughts and both QBs have been in an intense offensive rookie of the year battle all season.
The two QBs will be in a high pressure situation for the first time in their NFL careers. Regardless of the outcome, these two quarterbacks will be looking to have many more playoff appearances in the year to come.
The road to the Super Bowl leads to New Orleans and while they’re some heavy favorites, it’s anybody's ballgame
