Dak Prescott Injury Update: Cowboys QB “Full Go” for Training Camp

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has delivered the news every fan wanted to hear: he is fully healthy and ready to be a full participant in the team’s 2025 training camp. After suffering a severe hamstring injury last season that required surgery, Prescott’s recovery has been closely monitored, and his latest update signals a positive outlook for the Cowboys as they prepare for the new campaign.
Prescott, 31, sustained a partial avulsion of his right hamstring tendon during Week 9 of the 2024 season against the Atlanta Falcons a devastating injury that ended his season prematurely. He underwent surgery in November to repair the damage and missed the final nine games of a disappointing 7-10 Cowboys season. Despite the setback, Prescott has remained optimistic throughout the offseason. “I’m healthy as I’ll be,” he told reporters on July 8. “I’ll be full go for camp. I’m healthy, yeah”.
The quarterback’s recovery has been steady and encouraging. He participated fully in the offseason training activities (OTAs) and minicamp, albeit with some limitations on contact drills as a precaution. Team medical staff are expected to give Prescott an official clearance ahead of training camp, which begins July 22 in Oxnard, California. Provided that final sign-off, Prescott will be able to engage in full-contact practices, a critical step toward regaining his pre-injury form.
Prescott’s health is paramount for Dallas, especially considering his contract and role. Carrying a league-leading cap hit north of $50 million for 2025, the three-time Pro Bowler has four years remaining on the massive extension he signed before last season. His performance will be pivotal in the Cowboys’ quest to return to playoff contention under new head coach Brian Scottenheimer, who was promoted from offensive coordinator following the departure of Mike McCarthy.
Last season, Prescott’s numbers were below his usual standards, a reflection of the injury and missed time. Over eight games, he completed 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions on pace for his least productive season statistically. Yet, his leadership and experience remain invaluable. Prescott’s offseason retreat with key receivers George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, who both figure prominently in Dallas’ revamped offense, has strengthened team chemistry. Prescott praised Pickens for his football IQ and leadership, saying, “That knowledge, that involvement, it shows you a guy that loves football,” and noted that Lamb’s contract situation last year had limited their offseason work together.
The Cowboys also made moves to bolster their backup quarterback depth, acquiring Joe Milton to support Prescott after losing Cooper Rush and Trey Lance in free agency. This depth will be important as Dallas looks to avoid the injury woes that plagued them in 2024.
In summary, Dak Prescott’s declaration that he is “full go” for training camp is a significant boost for the Cowboys. His health and readiness will be crucial to Dallas’ hopes of improving on last year’s 7-10 record and making a deeper playoff run. With a new coaching staff, a healthier Prescott, and an energized receiving corps, the Cowboys are poised to compete at a high level in 2025.
As Prescott himself said, “I’m healthy, and I think soon here I’ll probably get an official sign-off from the doc, but I’m healthy.” That confidence will be key as the Cowboys chase their Super Bowl aspirations this fall
