Cincinnati Bengals Secure Stadium Deal: What It Means for the Franchise

The Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County have reached a pivotal agreement that secures the team’s future at Paycor Stadium through at least 2036, with options extending potentially to 2046. Announced on June 26, 2025, this landmark deal includes a $470 million renovation plan for the 25-year-old stadium, marking a significant investment in the franchise’s home and the city’s sports landscape.

Details of the Agreement

The renovation budget of $470 million represents a compromise from the Bengals’ initial $830 million proposal. Under the new terms, Hamilton County will contribute $350 million, while the Bengals will cover $120 million. This 75-25 split is a notable improvement over the previous arrangement, where the county bore 88 percent of stadium costs.

The lease extension guarantees the Bengals’ presence in downtown Cincinnati for at least 11 more years, with five additional two-year options that could keep the team at Paycor Stadium through 2046. This long-term commitment removes uncertainty about the franchise’s location, a critical factor for fans, players, and local businesses.

Bengals Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn expressed enthusiasm about the deal: “This is a significant day for the Bengals and Hamilton County as we secure the team’s future in Cincinnati. We thank the Hamilton County Commissioners for supporting this agreement to ensure Paycor Stadium remains an excellent venue and a focal point for Cincinnati’s riverfront. We are proud to call Paycor Stadium our home and to keep our future here in Cincinnati, where it belongs.”

Renovation Plans and Stadium Upgrades

While specific renovation details remain under wraps pending final approval, the Bengals have proposed upgrades to club lounges, stadium suites, concession areas, and scoreboards. These enhancements aim to modernize the fan experience and maintain Paycor Stadium’s status as a premier NFL venue.

The stadium, originally opened in 2000 as Paul Brown Stadium and renamed Paycor Stadium in 2022, has served as the Bengals’ home for over two decades. The planned renovations will ensure it remains competitive with newer facilities around the league.

Financial and Community Impact

A key change in the new lease is the introduction of rent payments by the Bengals, a first in the franchise’s history at Paycor Stadium. The team will pay $1 million annually for the first three years, increasing to $2 million annually for the remaining eight years and any extensions. This shift alleviates some financial burden from taxpayers and reflects a more balanced partnership.

Moreover, Hamilton County will gain greater control over external events hosted at the stadium, including concerts and other sporting events. County Commissioner Denise Driehaus highlighted the community benefits: “Taxpayers will have access to their stadium. We will control what occurs in the stadium. We will host concerts and various games. I’m thrilled that taxpayers can leverage this venue for their benefit.” This expanded use could increase stadium revenue and enhance Cincinnati’s cultural offerings.

What This Means for the Bengals’ Future

Securing Paycor Stadium for the long term provides the Bengals with stability crucial for franchise growth and success. It enables the team to focus on building a competitive roster without distractions about relocation or stadium uncertainty.

The renovation investment also signals the Bengals’ commitment to improving the fan experience and maintaining a top-tier NFL environment. For players, upgraded facilities can enhance training and game-day preparation.

Local businesses and the Cincinnati economy stand to benefit from the continued presence of the Bengals downtown, with game-day traffic and events driving commerce and tourism.

The $470 million stadium renovation deal and lease extension mark a major milestone for the Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County. By securing the franchise’s home for at least the next decade and investing in modern upgrades, both parties have laid a foundation for sustained success on and off the field.

As Katie Blackburn aptly summarized, “We are proud to call Paycor Stadium our home and to keep our future here in Cincinnati, where it belongs.” This agreement not only preserves a beloved NFL tradition but also strengthens the bond between the Bengals and the Cincinnati community for years to come.
