A lot of the Miami Dolphins' success is predicated on being able to center their offense on Tua Tagovailoa. The signal-caller has been fairly effective on the field but his health remains a big concern after his third career concussion. Mike McDaniel even urged him to retire but it does not look like the quarterback will do so. Now, will they be able to fully maximize Tyreek Hill and their other weapons without the star? Let's dive deep into it.
Tua Tagovailoa gets real on his future
There were largely just two requests for the Dolphins star when he got hit by Damar Hamlin. It was either that he wears a guardian cap for the rest of his career or that he hang up the cleats and call it a career. He made it very clear that it was not going to be the latter.
“I considered it for a time, having sat down with my family, having sat down with my wife and having those kind of conversations, but it will be hard for me to walk away from this game with how old I am. I always dreamed of playing as long as I could to where my son knew exactly what he was watching his dad do. It’s my health. It’s my body. I feel like this is what’s best for me and my family. I love the game of football, if I didn’t, I would have quit a long time ago," he declared.
With all that said, it looks like Tyreek Hill would still have Tagovailoa back whenever he recovers. But, how does he perform without him during that recovery process?
Tyreek Hill's isolated numbers
Hill has clearly not had a subpar quarterback in his career. He was catching passes from Patrick Mahomes en route to Super Bowl glory then transitioned to creating chemistry with Tagovailoa. However, he does not need an extremely talented quarterback to thrive. In fact, he does very well by himself.
In his only year with Oklahoma State, he notched an average gain of 9.1 yards per catch. Hill was also very capable of running the ball as he gave the Cowboys a 5.2-yard gain every time that he would rush. It is safe to say that he still has all of this in his arsenal regardless of who the person under center is.
So, he might just do well despite Tagovailoa being out for a bit.
