Breece Hall Addresses Jets Trade Rumors: Will He Stay in New York?

The offseason for the New York Jets has been rife with speculation surrounding running back Breece Hall’s future with the team. As the 2025 NFL season approaches, Hall, entering the final year of his rookie contract, has finally broken his silence on the swirling trade rumors and provided clarity on his standing within the Jets organization.
Hall, a second-round pick in 2022, quickly established himself as a dynamic back with explosive playmaking ability. In his rookie year, he ranked fourth in total yards from scrimmage in the NFL, trailing only elite players like Christian McCaffrey and Tyreek Hill. However, his momentum was derailed by a serious knee injury in 2024, which limited his production and raised questions about his long-term durability and role in New York’s offense.
Rumors intensified leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft that the Jets might trade Hall, possibly to clear the way for younger backs like Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Yet, despite the noise, Hall revealed that he was never actively shopped and that the Jets did not pursue acquiring a rookie running back in the draft. The turning point came in late April when new head coach Aaron Glenn personally reached out to Hall to dispel the rumors.
“At first, I just kind of like, OK, we’ll just see what happens,” Hall said. “And then, [Glenn] called me and told me: ‘Breece, you think I want to trade you?’ And I was like, I don’t know. He’s like, ‘Breece, I don’t want to trade you. I want you to be here. You’re going to be here, you’re our running back.’ And so that felt really good”.
This direct conversation with Glenn not only reassured Hall but also cemented his role in the Jets’ plans for the 2025 season. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand echoed this sentiment, praising Hall’s work ethic and versatility. “He’s a diligent worker... he really is,” Engstrand remarked. “He dedicates himself to his craft, pays attention to detail, and is a versatile player. I wouldn’t say he’s restricted to just one type of running back”.
Despite the coach’s confidence, the Jets are expected to employ a committee approach in the backfield this year. Hall’s yards per carry have dipped since his rookie season from 4.5 to 4.2 reflecting some lingering effects of his injury and a less explosive 2024 campaign. Still, the team remains optimistic about his potential to rebound and contribute significantly.
Hall himself is embracing a simple, focused mentality heading into what many consider a make-or-break season. “If people feel like you’re not doing your job, you’re going to be replaced. It didn’t happen. I’m here,” he said. “I’m here to work, I’m here to do my job, and prove that I deserve to be here”.
The Jets’ front office, led by new general manager Darren Mougey, has not prioritized Hall as a clear extension candidate yet, which leaves his long-term future in New York uncertain. However, with the endorsement from Glenn and the team’s commitment to leveraging Hall’s skill set in 2025, there is a strong indication that the running back will remain a key piece of the Jets’ offense at least for the upcoming season.
While trade rumors swirled heavily around Breece Hall during the offseason, the Jets’ new coaching staff has made it clear that he remains their running back heading into 2025. Hall’s determination to prove himself after a challenging 2024 and the team’s faith in his abilities suggest that, for now, he will stay in New York and look to reclaim the form that made him one of the league’s most exciting young backs. The coming months will be critical for Hall as he aims to silence doubters and solidify his place in the Jets’ backfield moving forward.
