Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season is coming up and at this point in the year many fantasy football rosters are suffering from the injury bug.
With injuries to players such as Christian McCaffrey, Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Mike Evans, etc. look for some free agents to be picked up this week.
The injury bug is currently running rampant in the NFL, so be on the lookout for some sleeper picks entering week 9.
Jameis Winston of the Cleveland Browns can be a decent pickup this week. Filling in for the injured Deshaun Watson, Winston threw for 334 passing yards last week against the Ravens and accumulated 23.6 fantasy points.
Look for Winston to be a sleeper pick this week as he projected to score 14.2 points this week against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Another key pick up in the quarterback section this week is Joe Flacco. The Indianapolis Colts announced they’re benching Anthony Richardson in favor of Flacco. In three games this season, Flacco has accumulated 55.2 fantasy points which is 18.4 fantasy points per game.
The Colts are set to take on the Minnesota Vikings this week with Flacco projecting to score 13.4 points.
Another Browns player, Cedric Tillman, could be a viable option at wide receiver. With Amari Cooper now in Buffalo, Tillman appears to be the new no. 1 in Cleveland.
Tillman is coming off of a great performance against Baltimore with 99 receiving yards and two touchdowns, scoring 28.9 fantasy points. The week prior to that against Cincinnati, Tilman recorded 81 receiving yards and accumulated 18.1 fantasy points.
Look for Tilman to be Winston's favorite target against the Chargers.
Another sleeper at wide receiver could be Bills wideout Keon Coleman. The acquisition of Cooper was a potential sign of less targets for Coleman, however that wasn’t the case against Seattle.
Coleman had 70 yards on five receptions against the Seahawks and accumulated 18.0 fantasy points while Cooper only scored 1.3 points with 3 receiving yards.
Despite the acquisition of Cooper, the connection between Bills quarterback Josh Allen and the rookie receiver Coleman is stronger than ever. Coleman is projected 11.5 points against the Vikings.
Jaleel Mclaughlin from the Denver Broncos could be a hidden gem for many fantasy owners this week. Mclaughlin is projected to score only 5.6 points, he’s coming off a 47 rushing yard and one receiving touchdown performance against Carolina.
Mclaughlin scored 12.6 fantasy points last week and could be in line for another good performance. Mclaughlin splits the carries with Broncos primary running back Javonte Williams and could be a viable checkdown option for Bo Nix against a tough Baltimore defense.
With week 9 approaching fast, these handful of players could be useful for some injury-riddled rosters. Desperate fantasy owners could be looking at some steals in free agency this week.
Owners better hope they’re high up on the waiver wire in order to pick up these players to patch some holes in some rosters.
