Anthony Richardson is 'more comfortable' in the Colts offense

A quarterback’s second year is when they usually pop off because they’ve shaken away all the rookie mistakes. This could very well be the case for the Indianapolis Colts and Shane Steichen. After a full season of having to learn from Gardner Minshew, Anthony Richardson has warmed up to his weapons like Michael Pittman Jr.
Anthony Richardson was one of those signal callers high up on the 2023 NFL Draft board. The Colts quarterback was a staple in discussions about Bryce Young and CJ Stroud being the best arm in the league. However, his first year was fairly lackluster. He could not even notch 600 passing yards which was a point of concern for Colts fans. However, this season could be very different. He outlined why in his latest statement, via Kevin Patra of the NFL Network.
"It's definitely easier to manage our offense now. I'm a lot more comfortable, a lot more comfortable with the call Shane is calling in. It has been good so far -- making plays with the offense, diving deeper into the offense and learning a lot more, and then just trying to take advantage of the defense,” he noted.
A quarterback is also nothing if he is not able to connect well with his weapons. Richardson has now gotten better at syncing up with the wideouts in the Colts system like Anthony Gould, Michael Pittman Jr., and Josh Downs among others.
"The communication is definitely, has advanced for us. Last year was more so, 'OK, follow the read, do this. Now it's like, 'OK if the defense does this, now I want you to think about this right here.' Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it's just trying to find ways to tweak our offense and get comfortable with each other. But I definitely feel like there's been a huge jump from last year to this year,” the Colts quarterback said.
It should be the start of something great in the Colts system.
