Legends have gone on to prove themselves by essentially competing with a handicap. Noah Lyles was out to make a name for himself in the 2024 Paris Olympics but there was something bogging him down. It was evident from his 200-meter finish that his A-game was not there. What happened and what caused him to fall short in the renowned competition?
Noah Lyles eventually finished third in the 200-meter dash in the Paris Olympics. However, some have gone on to say that this decision to still enter the race was a bit selfish. This was largely because he had been diagnosed with COVID just two days prior. Many argued that he could have caused a medical conundrum due to the infectious nature of the disease.
He would then go on to explain what happened in his mind when it came to this decision in the Olympics: "Of course I’m like, ‘Dang.’ Like, ‘God, what’s going on? I thought we prepped, you know? I thought I had prepared for everything. I'm always under the belief that God does things for a purpose and a reason,” Lyles explained. “I have been sick before. I’ve fought through sickness. I’d be very upset if I didn’t at least take the first chance of saying, ‘Maybe I can run through this."
Lyles may have notched the bronze medal but he was visibly in pain after the race. He immediately had to lie down and catch his breath. One might only think that this was the hardest race that he had to run.
