NFL Cities That Have Never Hosted a Super Bowl

Each year, the Super Bowl is one of the most watched events across the US, and where it is played is a huge deal as well.

While some cities had put on the Super Bowl together multiple times never getting an opportunity to flaunt this premier event and NFL cities that have never ever held the Super Bowl.

So, here is a deeper dive into the history, facilities and likely reasons the first two have never hosted a Super Bowl.

1. Baltimore

The Super Bowl has never been hosted in Baltimore, which is the home city of the Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore has a strong football culture and a great following for the Ravens, but their stadium is relatively old, and it has not hosted a Super Bowl.

Perhaps this lack of an adequate facility, in terms of size and infrastructure may explain Baltimore not being the hosting city for an upcoming Super Bowl.

2. Buffalo

Despite the Bills enjoying a loyal following and the team's storied tradition in the NFL, Buffalo has never won the right to host the Super Bowl.

When the dust settled, the city was not even a part of the 60 odd cities in the united states that made the cut to host this prestigious event, due to its stadium infrastructure, and the fact that it is a cold zone city in the winter time.

3. Charlotte

The city of Charlotte, where the Panthers play their home games, has never been given a Super Bowl.

Charlotte has become a significant city in the NFL, but a lack of stadium that fits NFL guidelines and competitive Super Bowl and Summer Classic detail could be one thing that keeps Charlotte out of hosting.

4. Chicago

Chicago, a city with a rich football tradition as the home of the Bears, has never been awarded a Super Bowl.

The elements, combined with Soldier Field's open-air stadium, may have helped eliminate Chicago from potential host cities in the NFL's decision.

5. Cincinnati

Cincinnati has never hosted a Super Bowl and are home to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Complicated stadium infrastructure in the city and the highly competitive nature of the process of selecting host cities for the prestigious championship may have made it difficult for Cincinnati to score the game.

6. Cleveland

Another NFL city (until next year) that has never hosted a Super Bowl, is Cleveland which represents the Browns.

Cleveland has a great football environment with their passionate fan base but the city's stadium, and most likely weather too, could have been a issue when it came to the NFL's desire to host the Super Bowl.

7. Denver

The NFL has likely been influenced by the fact Denver plays in an open-air stadium at Empower Field at Mile High, with the franchise subjected to cold temperatures and minimal elements (compared to warmer-weather cities) for much of the season, and Denver has never been awarded the League's biggest game.

8. Green Bay

No Super Bowl has ever been hosted at the historical heart of the Green Bay Packers (Green Bay).

The city's most famous venue, the outdoor Lambeau Field that seats 81,441, may have iced the region out again because of NFL host requirements for the Super Bowl.

9. Kansas City

While Kansas City has a rich football culture and a successful Chiefs franchise, it has never been selected to host a Super Bowl. Perhaps The city's Arrowhead Stadium and the competitive selection process did so to the list of Super Bowl host cities.

10. Foxborough

To date, Foxborough has never hosted a Super Bowl, and is the home of the New England Patriots.

Foxborough, host of the Patriots' Gillette Stadium, and the harsh winter weather in New England likely impacted the NFL's decision in selecting the city as a Super Bowl location.

11. Philadelphia

Philadelphia has football history and fans that few cities can match, but it simply has not been rewarded with a Super Bowl. Continued Below The city's decision may have been based on the open-air stadium and likelihood of dealing with weather-related challenges.

Patience is a virtue

In reality, every one of these NFL cities has a particular set of circumstances that have helped to keep them off the Super Bowl hosting carousel.

The race to host the competition has long been determined by a mix of stadium infrastructure, weather and process of elimination.

Those towns haven't yet hosted a Super Bowl, but it's entirely possible that the criteria for determining where the NFL sends it Super Bowl could change in the future and provide new opportunities for those NFL markets to host the game.
