San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk recently spoke to the media to discuss his new four-year, $120 million extension and the negotiation process that came along with it.
With a huge smile, the 26-year-old admitted that he dragged things out longer than they needed to be.
"I'm not gonna lie, I made it a little bit more difficult than I needed to at the end," Aiyuk said via the Associated Press. "For about the past month, I think we were pretty good."
"I just had a feel for what I wanted, not just in terms of money, but in all those things. Ultimately, I wanted to be here, and I ended up being here. So I'm happy and ready to go," he added.
Brandon Aiyuk requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers in July, which led to weeks of speculation about his future. Rivals teams reportedly negotiated with San Francisco, with the Pittsburgh Steelers being the closest, but Aiyuk eventually agreed to stay.
Brandon Aiyuk is coming off a breakout season with the San Francisco 49ers
Brandon Aiyuk wanted to get his bag this summer after posting career highs last season. The No. 25 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft was named to the Second Team All-Pro after racking up 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 75 receptions while helping the team reach the Super Bowl.
He didn't participate at the start of training camp not only because of his holdout but also because he had back and neck issues. Aiyuk practiced for the first time with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday.
