There is often a consensus when it comes to recognizing the face of golf. This honor goes to Tiger Woods, more often than not, due to his insane skills that surfaced at such a young age and has stayed the same for a long time. However, there was someone who kept pushing him in the background in order to reach all these accolades. It is none other than his father.
Earl Woods was in the military for a little bit over two decades. This stint in serving the security of the country with the Green Berets gave way for him to meet his eventual wife and Tiger Woods' mom. Their love bore fruit and it had them welcome their son on the 30th of December in 1975.
They raised Tiger near a golf course. So, it was very easy for Earl to teach his young son how to play golf. He even ended up caddying for Tiger in some of his earlier tournaments. Eventually, the rise to stardom happened and he had to become an advisor to his son. He just had to relish in the success of Tiger and his son would often give him tokens of appreciation for how great he was raised.
When Earl passed in 2006, Tiger had nothing but great words to describe him: “My dad was always the person who would plant seeds and give me encouragement but also would say things that would fester inside me that wouldn’t come to fruition for a while. He was very worldly and deep in his thinking. My mom was the enforcer. My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him."
