Robbie Lawler: Unraveling the Career of 'Ruthless'...

Ruthless, the nickname associated with Robbie Lawler, engraved his name into the history books of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) a long time ago with a career that stretches back to more than two decades.

His story, from an up and coming young gun to the welterweight champion of the world, is one of the stories that helped solidify the image of "heart" in the sport.

Origin, Early Life and Beginnings

That is not surprising, as Robbie Lawler started fighting for the UFC back at UFC 37 in 2002 as a top wrestler with truly impressive striking skills.

One of his signature attributes was his aggression and sheer combat spirit which made him an anomaly in the MMA scene.

While he had a few stumbles early, dropped a fight to Nick Diaz upon his return to 170 pounds and a defeat in his 185-pound debut against Evan Tanner, Lawler's raw talent and desire eventually led him to three wins in four fights and thus into the eyes of Scott Coker's Strikeforce.

UFC and Second Strikeforce Stint

Who he fought in Strikeforce He fought some of the best of the best of the world in Strikeforce, Lorenz Larkin, Tim Kennedy and Jake Shields and even though he sometimes came out on the losing side he always showed out in entertaining fights.

The middle portion of Lawler's Strikeforce tenure was troubled with mixed results but a win over Jacare Souza saw him challenge for the middleweight title. We saw him make further strides after his UFC return, showing the same relentless fighting spirit and knockout power he was once known for, thrilling crowd after crowd with his performances.

UFC Welterweight Champion and Iconic Bouts

Lawler's climb led to a UFC welterweight title, 12 years after he first fought in the UFC. However, after a controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks, Lawler proved he was here to stay with a rematch against Hendricks at UFC 181.

Perhaps most famously, his pair of title defenses against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit were among the most memorable and competitive fights in the history of mixed martial arts.

Despite this though, Lawler did quickly become a fan favorite as he continued to wage bloody battles and fight savagely in the octagon leading to him being labeled as "The Ruthless One" who was a true warrior in the cage.

Legacy and Impact on MMA

Throughout his career that was Hall of Fame worthy in any fashion, Lawler fought the best in sport, including Tyron Woodley, Donald Cerrone and Nick Diaz among others.

Although injuries and a long career were starting to take their toll on his physical abilities, the relentless competitor in "Ruthless Robbie" was still inspiring fans and fellow competitors with his dedication to putting on a good show.

The legendary Judo expert fought one final time at UFC 290, leaving behind an indelible mark on MMA with a jaw-dropping knockout win over Niko Price to retire with his last W.

A Legendary Retirement and Hall of Fame Induction

Well, Robbie Lawler s exit from MMA at UFC 290 may cast back the end of an epoch mile away from his status as a hall of famer in more ways than one, after a 90-second call all knockout that serves to only further nail his flag to the mast of the MMA folklore.

This is really what is highlighted by Lawler going into the Hall of Fame and the long, warm standing ovation he received, and what's so honored about him in the first place.

Deconstructing 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler

The entirety of Lawler's career captures in form the image of a fighter who defied expectations and persevered through his canyon of fears and helped turn it to a river of life.

He was never meant to hold a title over the long term, but his will to win against top competition not to mention all-time comebacks like against Rory MacDonald etched his place in the lore of mixed martial arts history.

The fascinating journey of Robbie Lawler through the rough seas of MMA stands as a witness to the true essence of the warrior spirit, as a warrior who left a memorable impact to the sport by his constant struggles to reach the summit, his epic fights and his commitment to always put up a show for the fans.

The mugger who has been operating out of Coconut Creek since 2012 and despite the fact he never held the world title, is a champion in every sense of the word as he represents the heart and soul of MMA.
