Cristiano Ronaldo once said that the records keep chasing him, which continues to be the case after he just scored his 900th career goal in Portugal's 2-1 win against Croatia to open their 2024-25 UEFA Nations League campaign.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored off a well-placed cross from Nuno Tavares. Instead of doing his signature "SIUUUU" celebration, Ronaldo turned visibly emotional as he fell onto his knees.
"It's a unique milestone in my career, and it was with a lot of emotion that I celebrated that goal. It represents a lot," Ronaldo said. "It was the number I wanted to achieve for a long time, and I knew I would achieve it because, as I continue to play, it would happen naturally. I already won two trophies for Portugal, something I really wanted. Whatever comes next is spectacular. I dreamed of this, and I have more dreams."
Cristiano Ronaldo aims to reach 1,000 career goals
Being the competitive player that he is, Ronaldo said he is aiming to reach 1,000 career goals before he retires. Despite turning 39 years old in February, it's plausible he could reach this milestone within the next three years because of his insane work ethic.
As things stand, CR7's goal tally is as follows: five goals for Sporting, 450 for Real Madrid, 131 for the Portuguese national team, 145 for Manchester United, 101 for Juventus, and 68 for Al-Nassr.
