The history of Kyle Field starts over a century ago at the American football stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. Originally constructed, though not yet resemble what it does now, in 1904, the structure was rebuilt as a permanent concrete fixture. The stadium has, over the years, gone under several renovations and expansions to suit the dynamic needs of the Texas A&M Aggies football program, from becoming a team with standing-room-only bleacher-style seating on two sides to a modern facility.
The Most Recent Renovation
More modernization arrived in 2013 with another massive renovation proposal to update and improve Kyle Field, approved with a ridiculous $485 million budget. The project was done in two stages, the first involving demolition and construction of the east side lower deck and the south end zone. Phase two included the complete destruction of the west side and a new south end zone, along with rebuilding what was torn down on the west.
The project also entailed removing structures next to it and building a new strength and conditioning lab training space on the school's west campus. The field was lowered, and the existing scoreboard and video board were moved to create a scoreboard facility on the front of the north-end zone structure. In addition, enhanced tree-lined walkways were built, and a new "South Side Upper Level" with an estimated capacity of 12,000 seats was constructed, possibly adding another 7,000.
Existing Size and Storage Features
Through 2021, Kyle Field has a capacity of 102,733, making it the largest stadium in the Southeastern Conference and the fourth-largest college football stadium by seating capacity. The stadium is also the 4th largest stadium in the United States and the sixth largest non-racing stadium in the world; it has a capacity of 100000 spectators, which makes it the biggest football arena in Texas. The refurbishment, which already included building one of the video displays in college football, was added to satisfy spectators.
The update included more seating in addition to upgrades such as a players' lounge with a view of Kyle Field, team locker rooms, and a sleek academic and training/rehab complex.
