The Paris Olympics was supposed to be one of the most star-studded tennis competitions. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Coco Gauff, and Swiatek among others were fiercely increasing the level of competitiveness. However, a key and dominant figure will not be continuing in the tournament. Who could it be? Well, it’s the top-ranked ATP player Jannik Sinner.
Italy may have just lost their star player in the Paris Olympics. Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the competition due to enduring tonsilitis. He outlined his dismay after the verdict was given about his health, via AP News.
“Missing the Olympics is a big disappointment, given that it was one of my main goals this season. I couldn’t wait to have the honor of representing my country in this extremely important event,” he said in a statement transcribed in Italian.
For the general draw, this means that a possible rematch between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic is looming at the Paris Olympics final. For the Italian tennis faithful, Sinner will be replaced by Andrea Vavassori. Will they still have a shot of making waves through a big upset?
