As Major League Baseball’s 95th All-Star Game approaches on July 15, 2025, at Truist Park in Atlanta, the spotlight turns not only to the league’s brightest stars but also to the managers who will lead the American League and National League squads. This year, the honor falls to Aaron Boone of the New York Yankees and Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers two of the game’s most respected and accomplished leaders.
Aaron Boone: First-Time All-Star Manager
Aaron Boone, now in his eighth season managing the Yankees, will make his debut as an All-Star Game manager. Boone’s tenure in New York has been marked by consistent success, guiding the Yankees to three AL East Division titles and six postseason appearances. Despite the pressure-cooker environment of New York, Boone has maintained a steady hand, blending veteran leadership with the development of young talent.
Boone’s selection as the AL manager comes as the Yankees are the reigning American League champions, a tradition that grants the manager of the previous year’s pennant winner the All-Star role. Notably, Boone is the first Yankees skipper to manage the AL All-Star team since Joe Girardi in 2010, underscoring the significance of this milestone.
In assembling his coaching staff, Boone invited former Yankees legend and Hall of Famer Joe Torre to serve as an honorary coach, along with Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, the reigning AL Manager of the Year. Boone’s full coaching staff includes bench coach Brad Ausmus and hitting coach James Rowson, among others, ensuring a blend of experience and fresh perspectives.
Boone reflected on the honor, saying, “It’s a privilege to represent the Yankees and the American League on such a big stage. Having Joe Torre and Stephen Vogt alongside us adds tremendous value, and we’re excited to showcase the talent we have.”
Dave Roberts: A Veteran at the Helm
On the National League side, Dave Roberts returns for his fourth stint as All-Star manager, having previously led the NL squads in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Roberts, now in his 10th season managing the Dodgers, has built a remarkable resume, including two World Series championships (2020 and 2024) and nine consecutive postseason appearances. His steady leadership has made the Dodgers a perennial powerhouse.
Roberts’ coaching staff features familiar faces from the Dodgers’ organization, including bench coach Danny Lehmann and pitching coach Mark Prior. He also extended honorary coaching invitations to Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker and Miami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough, adding local flavor and fresh insight to the NL dugout.
Roberts commented, “Managing the All-Star Game is always a special experience. It’s about bringing together the best players from across the league and creating a competitive, fun environment. Having Brian and Clayton join us is fantastic, especially with the game being in Atlanta.”
The Significance of the Managers
Both Boone and Roberts bring unique leadership styles to the All-Star Game. Boone’s calm, analytical approach contrasts with Roberts’ energetic and player-friendly demeanor, promising an engaging managerial duel. Their teams will feature the league’s elite talent, including multiple Dodgers and Yankees players, reflecting their clubs’ dominance.
The 2025 All-Star Game will be broadcast nationally on Fox at 8 p.m. ET, offering fans a chance to see these two managers showcase their strategic acumen on one of baseball’s grandest stages.
Aaron Boone and Dave Roberts embody the excellence and competitive spirit of Major League Baseball. As the 2025 All-Star Game unfolds at Truist Park, their leadership will be central to what promises to be a memorable Midsummer Classic.
