Frank Gore Jr. carries more than just footballs. The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles running back also carries the name of his father, Frank Gore Sr., which is quite a considerable weight on his young shoulders.
After all, Gore Sr. is one of the all-time great NFL running backs who went on to become the third-leading rusher in league history with 16,000 rushing yards over his illustrious 16-year playing career.
But Frank Gore Jr. is more than living up to his father's name as he's been busy racking up the rushing yards in college - just like dad used to do.
The 20-year-old is having a strong season for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. He has 381 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per carry with three touchdowns through five games, as well as six catches for 38 yards. He is an integral part of the Golden Eagles’ offense and will be crucial in their success this season.
Frank Gore Jr. has already amassed 1,890 rushing yards thus far in his college career, so he is close to surpassing his old man's collegiate total of 1,975 rushing yards while playing at the University of Miami. At the rate he is going, he figures to blow past his father’s numbers at some point this season, which would be quite an achievement.
