Mike Tyson, a former heavyweight boxing champion, is renowned for his early rise to fame, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history at just 20 years old, and for his tumultuous personal and financial journey, which includes significant achievements in the ring as well as notable struggles outside of it. Mike Tyson was born on June 30th 1966 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, New York. He was raised by his mother Lorna Mae (Smith). Tyson was arrested 38 times by the age of 13. He ended up at the  Tryon School for Boys and met former pro boxer Bobby Stewart. Stewart introduced Tyson to legendary boxing trainer Cus D'Amato, who trained Tyson until his death in 1985. When Tyson’s mother died when he was 16 D'Amato became his legal guardian.

Mike Tyson won two Gold Medals at the Junior Olympic games in 1981 and 1982 and in 1984 he won Gold at the Nation Golden Gloves. In 1985 he was named Ring Magazine’s Prospect of the Year. In 1985 at the age of 18, Tyson turned pro. In 1987, Tyson knocked out Trevor Berbick in the second round to win the WBC heavyweight title, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history. At 20 years old at 145 days, Tyson still holds the record for youngest heavyweight champion. That same year, was the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles. He was undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987-1990.

In his return to boxing in 1995, Tyson knocked out Peter McNeely less than 90 seconds into round one. In 1996, Tyson knocked out Frank Bruno in the third round to become WBC heavyweight champion. Later that year, Tyson defended the title against Bruce Sheldon with a first round knock out. Tyson lost his title to Evander Holyfield in 1997. He lost the rematch and another high profile fight with Lennox Lewis in 2002. Tyson never won another world title. Tyson retired in 2005 with 50 wins, two heavyweight champion reigns and 44 knockouts. In 2011, Mike Tyson was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
