Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez was born on July 18th 1990 in the outskirts of Guadalajara Jalisco. As a small child, his family moved to Juanacatlán Saul was raised on a farm. Saul is the youngest of eight children, he has six brothers and one sister, all of the Alvarez boys became professional boxers. Saul started boxing at the age of thirteen and by 15 became the Junior Mexican National Boxing Champion. At 15, he turned professional after an amateur career of 44 victories and 2 losses.

In 2015, Alvarez beat Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight title. In 2017, Alvarez fought Gennady Golovkin for the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles. The fight ended in a controversial draw. A year later, Canelo won the rematch by majority decision. Exactly three months later Alvarez won WBA super middleweight title against Rocky Fielding via third round knock out. In 2019, Canelo knocked out Sergey Kovalev in round 11 to become WBO light heavyweight champion.


In December of 2020, Alvarez began his run at undisputed champion at super middleweight with a win over Callum Smith. Two months later, he knocked out Avni Yıldırım in round 3. In May, he defeated Billy Joe Saunders in round via TKO. Then in November he beat Caleb Plant to become undisputed champion via 11th round TKO. In 2022, he finished the trilogy with GGG with a dominant unanimous decision win.
