Kellie Wells Brinkley is a beacon of hope, the picture of resolute durableness. From a young girl in Richmond, Virginia to becoming an American Olympian and bronze-medal winner, Kellie's road to glory is a story of triumph and resilience.
Early Life and Background
Kellie Wells was born on July 16, 1982, in Richmond, Virginia. Unfortunately, she was sexually abused at a young age by her mother's boyfriend and had a very troubled childhood with many struggles. Through it all, Kellie showed incredible strength, and in the end, she managed to find her way after a difficult start in life.
Athletic Career
It all began for Kellie Wells at James River High School, where she shined on both the track and in the classroom. She then went to Hampton University and became the first NCAA Division 1 All-American in any sport in school history.
A severe hamstring tear at the Olympic Trials in 2008 was a devastating blow to Kellie. But come 2011, she made a strong return to top-tier competition, capturing national titles and the 100-meter hurdles. Luck smiled her way and she made it to the 2012 Olympic Games, where she saved the day and the night, the second of many instances of how she would rescue and slay.
Road to Olympic Glory
Kellie Wells ran the 100-meter hurdles at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Despite defying the odds and pushing through off of sheer determination, she ran a personal best of 12.48 for a well-earned bronze for Team USA.
Beyond the Medal
But the road for Kellie Wells Brinkley was too long before the Olympic glories. As a devoted wife, mother, speaker, author, and advocate for survivors of abuse and violence. Her foundation, "The Hits and Hurdles Foundation," is based on Kellie's desire to support and empower other individuals who have overcome major records in their lives.
Inspiration and Legacy
The story of Brinkley is an example of how resilience is enough to break any obstacle, and where there is an Olympiad there is a warrior. Countless people feel inspired by her because she represents what many of us go through, which means we know we can go through it too. The indefatigable spirit of Kellie, both on the track and in life, inspires and uplifts many and helps others stand up in the face of despair and continue, acting as a pillar of resilience and stubbornness.
In short, the story of Kellie Wells Brinkley is an inspirational tale of overcoming controversies to achieve the Olympian Dream.
