Connor needed that constant support to train and grow as an athlete. With a young family and mortgage, "you do what you have to do," Tom Bedard said, but the hard work she put into making sure their children could follow their dreams was impressive.

Melanie admits it has not been easy, but her journey as a hockey mom has brought much joy and pride. Seeing Connor shine on the ice and wear a Canadian jersey in international tournaments has been pure joy for her. 

The connection between Melanie and Connor is strong. The way they are inspired and have respect for each other. "Hockey is such an extreme sport, and there can be so much stress involved in it that I never want him to lose the fun part of hockey because he puts everything into diving," Melanie said. She often emphasizes the importance of Connor keeping things light, saying, "I just know there's nothing else he rather is doing. This is what he loves". This vantage point has helped Connor handle the expectations of being a top-flight prospect and love what he is doing.

Parenting a Young Athlete is Challenging

With Connor's celebrity status, Melanie has had to negotiate the stress from the internet world. Melanie has had to defend her family against the noise that often gets louder than a child's passion and efforts.

However, despite all of this, Melanie continues to focus on what matters most: Connor's happiness and well-being. She gets that the weight of being labeled baseball's top prospect can be exhausting, and she does whatever it is, including forcing him to turn into a one-night stand guy rather than simmering in relationship turmoil; she must offer refuge." You can see with so much pressure how that might look differently or how it could just kind of consume you," she explained, citing the importance of perspective.

However, the story of Melanie Bedard has a strong ending, not despite her at-all impossibility.
