Before all of these unicorns came into the league, it was thought that Zion Williamson would be the next big thing. This behemoth just played a very athletic and physical brand of basketball out of the Duke Blue Devils system. However, weight has become an issue for him since he joined the New Orleans Pelicans. A lot of analysts suggest that he is largely not popping off because of he manages his weight. Since then, has he lost any of his fat and gotten better?
The New Orleans Pelicans are always fringe postseason contenders. However, many think that they would be better if Zion Williamson played more games and stayed healthy. This athletic wunderkind obliged and started shedding a lot of weight entering the 2024-25 season. In fact, he even replaced all of that fat from his injury days with pure muscle to help him on the court.
A big motivating factor for the Pelicans star's shift in body image was the vitriol that he received from fans all over the world. So, he just started to have a better diet and more intense workout routine. By the end of it, he even lost up to 25 pounds before the season started. Williamson is also not done. His ideal weight is about 272 pounds which is still about eight pounds lower than what he currently is at the moment.
This journey has transformed his physique but also his style of play. In six games with the Pelicans, he is averaging about 22 points alongside eight rebounds. However, an injury bogged him down yet again. This time, it looks like he has a better plan of maintaining his weight while also getting better through his injury rehabilitation.
