When you compare two such basketball legends as LeBron James and Michael Jordan, the debate often extends beyond their on-court performances to bring in their physical attributes. Both players have forever left their legacies in the NBA. But who is really taller? Let's get those numbers straight.
LeBron James
LeBron James, often regarded as 'The Chosen One', has been a dominant force in the NBA since he first stepped onto the scene in 2003. Standing at an imposing 6 feet 9 inches, or 2.06 meters, James has a rare combination of size, muscle and agility unparalleled success on the basketball court earns him accolades consistently. His physical frame has given him an advantage over any defender on the floor.
Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan, widely respected as the greatest basketball player of all time, is known for his formidable ability to score and defend, along with an almost unbelievable combat power. Jordan, at 6 feet 6 inches or 1.98 meters, may not have the same towering height as James but his impact on the game and his ability to dominate opponents were not strangled hopelessly by his physical stature.
Height Disparity
The contrast in height between LeBron James and Michael Jordan is clear, with James holding a 3-inch advantage over Jordan. In basketball, height can be quite an advantage, particularly in the forward and center positions where players often use their height to score, get rebounds, and challenge shots. LeBron James' towering figures have surely contributed to his ability to dominate down low in securing rebounds and shot blocks, giving him a physical advantage over many opponents.
Then again, Michael Jordan's slightly shorter height did not diminish his all-round influence on the game. Incorporating his fabulous leap, long arm and IQ for basketball, he was able to compensate whatever height handicap might exist and still become a major scorer and defensive player sharp in the clutch.
The Evolution of The NBA Player
Player sizes and styles of play have changed greatly in the history of the NBA. Traditionally, taller players were assigned to center and power forward.
LeBron James and Michael Jordan represent exactly this evolution. Both have been able to play multiple positions, handle the ball and help their teammates get off good shots. They have elevated our expectations of what a man of their size can accomplish on the basketball court respectively.
