Shaquille O'Neal's hands are measured with a length of about 10.25 inches. When it comes to width, they are still absurdly long because it's about 12 inches. If a person thinks hard about it enough, the NBA legend has hands that are even bigger than one of the most common measuring apparatuses in the world - a ruler.
When compared to a normal person's hands, the NBA legend's surely stands out. The average length and width of a regular American hand is measured at 7.6 and 3.5 inches respectively. These genetic rarities make it very easy for basketball players to thrive on the court more than any other people.
Michael Jordan, perhaps the greatest player of all-time, even claimed that these often overlooked body parts tend to be the difference maker for most stars over other regular players: “If you ever noticed, Dr J’s hand, his thumb is so far away from his index finger which gives him a better grip and wider span. He can pick a ball off the dribble and do anything that he wants to do with it."
