De’Aaron Fox Joins 10K Club as the Kings Claim First Win of the Season

The Sacramento Kings' 2024-25 season started rocky, with them losing all their preseason games and their first two regular-season games. However, things turned around when they beat the Portland Trailblazers 111-98 at Golden 1 Center Monday night.
Their franchise player, De’Aaron Fox (24 pts), and their big offseason signing, DeMar DeRozan (23 pts), led the Kings past the young Blazers squad. “It’s definitely great to get that first win out of the way,” Fox said. “We felt like we dropped one the first game of the season, but getting a win before going on a long road trip is always good.” It’s only their first win of the season, but it marked a significant milestone for Fox, becoming only the fifth player in franchise history to score 10,000 points, joining legends Oscar Robertson, Jack Twyman, Mitch Richmond, and Tiny Archibald. “I forgot that I was actually that close but to do it at home and obviously to do it in a win makes it even that much more special,” Fox said. “Not a lot of people get to do that. The average span of an NBA career is like 3 ½ (years), like literally one contract.
So being able to be blessed to be in the league that long and being able to put the ball in the basket that many times, definitely a blessing.” Since being drafted No. 5 overall by the Kings in the 2017 NBA Draft, Fox has steadily improved and eventually became the face of the franchise.
During the Fox era in Sacramento, the franchise was brought back to relevance and ended their 16-season playoff drought. “Man, what a career,” Kings head coach Mike Brown exclaimed. “What he’s done for the city of Sacramento, for the organization, at such a young age to score his 10,000th point, that should definitely be celebrated. That’s a neat milestone to hit at this point in his career.” The Kings and Fox are in the middle of a contract extension, but both parties have expressed their intentions for a long and fruitful relationship in the future.
