The 2024 WNBA season has already produced some nail-biters and singular performances by individual players over the first few weeks. We reveal the best teams, the best players, and their great performances in the spotlight of the season.
Top Teams
Connecticut Sun
Connecticut Sun, after an overtime thriller against Minnesota Lynx, has suddenly become the team to beat, sitting atop the power rankings. The Sun are the only unbeaten team in the WNBA and have accomplished on the court being top of the league in both the eyes of their fans and those who professionally observe the league.
Las Vegas Aces
But after the 2023 champion Aces have suffered some bumps in the road, they are still proving their mettle on-court. Starring a loaded roster that includes A'ja Wilson, alongside fresh new signees like Skylar Diggins-Smith, the Las Vegas Aces have preserved their spot as a team to watch for the 2024 season.
Phoenix Mercury
Copper is leading the WNBA in scoring and Taurasi experienced a revival in her storied career, but overall the Mercury haven't lived up to expectations. The Mercury have waited for star center Brittney Griner to return from injury, but have shown resilience against some top opponents.
New York Liberty
The Liberty have shown to have some pop on the hardwood. Together with Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, the Liberty are still expected to do big things later in the year.
Seattle Storm
Seattle, paced by Jewell Loyd and Mercedes Russell, remains one of the best in the league. Look out for the Storm to make a deep playoff push come later in the season in 2024.
Standout Players
A'ja Wilson
Spending the last two seasons as the WNBA MVP, the Las Vegas Aces have established A'ja Wilson as one of the premier players in the league given her unique combination of skill and productivity.
Breanna Stewart
Defying significant postseason adversity, the reigning league MVP Breanna Stewart has continued to remind everyone why she belongs.
Skylar Diggins-Smith
What Skylar Diggins-Smith has done to Phoenix Mercury has been enormous and other guards in the league do not seem to be close to reaching that sort of production and effective leadership.
Diana Taurasi
One of the feel-good stories of the WNBA season is the Mercury, and what appears to be another resurgence by ageless wonder Diana Taurasi with her scoring and savvy leadership.
Jonquel Jones
In the case of Jonquel Jones and how she will affect the New York Liberty lineup because of her flexibility, she will be a player to look out for as we head on through these tough times of the season.
Jewell Loyd
Jewell Loyd has gone on to become one of the best players in the league, and her record-setting performance during the 2023 season was a key part of the Seattle Storm's winning the championship.
The WNBA season has been full of great storylines, rivalries, and the exceptional play of a slew of players this season, in addition to the above counterparts.
The mysterious ways of the 2024 WNBA season roll on, with tantalizing matchups and jaw-dropping plays preceded by the intense expressive heat of players and franchises. Fans have outstanding games and performances to look forward to as the season goes on that should make this one of the most memorable seasons in WNBA history.
