Utah Mammoth: History, Stanley Cups & Facts
The NHL approved a new franchise in Utah on April 18, 2024, and it began play that fall at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. It played its first season as the Utah Hockey Club and became the Utah Mammoth in May 2025.

Utah has not won the Stanley Cup as of 2026. Its first playoff appearance came in 2026, in the franchise's second season.

- 2024: On April 18 the NHL approved a new franchise in Utah. The Arizona Coyotes' players, draft picks and hockey operations staff were transferred to it.
- 2024: On October 8 won its first game, 5–2 over the Chicago Blackhawks at the Delta Center. Dylan Guenther scored the first goal in franchise history.
- 2025: On May 7 announced Mammoth as its permanent name after a fan vote with more than 850,000 votes.
- 2025: A renovation of the Delta Center for hockey began in April.
- 2026: Reached the playoffs for the first time and lost to Vegas in six games in the first round.

Is the Utah Mammoth the same franchise as the Arizona Coyotes?
No. The NHL created Utah as a new franchise in April 2024. The Coyotes' players, draft picks and hockey staff moved to Utah, but the Coyotes' history and records did not.
Why was the team called the Utah Hockey Club?
It was a temporary name for the 2024–25 season while the team ran a fan vote on a permanent name. Mammoth was announced on May 7, 2025.
Why the name Mammoth?
It honors the woolly mammoths that lived in Utah during the last Ice Age. Mammoth remains have been found across the state.
When did Utah first make the playoffs?
In 2026. The Mammoth lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in six games in the first round.
Has Utah retired any numbers?
As of 2026 the franchise has not retired a number of its own. Wayne Gretzky's 99 is retired across the NHL.
