Tennessee Titans: History, Super Bowls & Facts
The franchise began in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, a charter member of the American Football League, and won the first two AFL championships. It moved to Tennessee in 1997 and became the Titans in 1999.

Championship history
The Oilers won the first two AFL championships. Through the 2025 season the franchise has reached one Super Bowl, losing to the St. Louis Rams.
- 1960 AFL Championship: beat the Los Angeles Chargers 24–16
- 1961 AFL Championship: beat the San Diego Chargers 10–3
- 1962 AFL Championship: lost to the Dallas Texans in double overtime
- Super Bowl XXXIV (1999 season): lost to the St. Louis Rams 23–16
Franchise history
- 1960: Began play as the Houston Oilers in the new American Football League.
- 1968: Moved into the Houston Astrodome.
- 1997: Relocated to Tennessee as the Tennessee Oilers.
- 1999: Renamed the Titans and opened Adelphia Coliseum, later renamed Nissan Stadium.
- 2000: Beat Buffalo 22–16 on the "Music City Miracle" kickoff return in the playoffs.
- 2000: Lost Super Bowl XXXIV when Kevin Dyson was tackled one yard short on the final play.
- 2023: Nashville's Metro Council approved a new enclosed stadium, planned to open in 2027.
