Championship history
Detroit won back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and 1990 with the "Bad Boys" and a third in 2004. The franchise also won two NBL titles in Fort Wayne.

- 1941: Joined the National Basketball League as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons.
- 1948: Moved to the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA in 1949.
- 1957: Relocated from Fort Wayne to Detroit.
- 1988: Moved into the Palace of Auburn Hills.
- 1989–1990: Won back-to-back titles under coach Chuck Daly.
- 2004: Won a third NBA title, beating the Lakers.
- 2017: Moved to Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.
