Why Lawrance Toafili is Florida State’s next great running back

Florida State has been home to a lot of running back greats through the years, like Dalvin Cook, Warrick Dunn, Devonta Freeman, and Jermaine Thomas, among others.

Lawrance Toafili has the potential to join them once it’s all said and done.

The Fan Arch athlete is a promising prospect for the Seminoles and has proven his worth over the last two years.

The four-star recruit out of Florida was a standout in high school, rushing for 1,463 yards on 194 carries and 18 total touchdowns in his senior season.

Lawrance Toafili made sure his game translated to the collegiate level and had an immediate impact on his freshman season. He appeared in eight games and recorded 476 all-purpose yards, gained 356 yards and two touchdowns on 37 rushes, and 120 yards on 12 receptions.

For his efforts, Lawrance Toafili deservingly won FSU co-Offense Freshman of the Year. Year 2 was even better for the 6-foot RB, as he rushed 32 times for 168 yards and one touchdown and caught 10 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Lawrance Toafili was even named to the Polynesian Player of the Year Watch List, which honors Polynesia’s greatest players, coaches, and contributors.

Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell, meanwhile, already expects big things from his third-year running back.

“He might be our most improved player on the roster,” Norvell said of Lawrance Toafili. “He’s had his explosive moments. He’s had an impact here. But really excited about the steps that he’s taken in his game. I love all aspects of what I’m seeing from his continued development.”s

While the physical tools have always been there, durability has been the only issue that hounded Lawrance Toafili. As a redshirt freshman, he only played in just nine games due to injury.

But looks like Lawrance Toafili has spent a lot of time in the weight room this summer, in hopes of getting his body stronger and injury-free.
