To say that the Houston Texans' performance against the Minnesota Vikings was poor is an understatement. CJ Stroud and the rest of the offense could not get anything going at all. The fact that they were also handed out a plethora of penalties did not make the loss easier to swallow too. Coach DeMeco Ryans blasted his squad for these mistakes and outlined why they should do better.
Texans' errors, a cause for concern
CJ Stroud and the rest of DeMeco Ryans' offense could only score one touchdown along with an extra point once in this clash against the Vikings. They had no momentum whatsoever and a big factor for that is their inability to properly execute without having a flag thrown at the field.
The Texans were handed out 11 penalties throughout this match. This was a big factor for the loss because it cost them a total gain of 88 yards. For a team that got sacked five times, had to punt four times, and was 4 out of 14 on third downs, this was a big deal.
DeMeco Ryans takes accountability amid being livid
Being the team who only scored seven points while allowing 34 points is surely not a great feeling. In fact, Ryans noted that it was precisely these unfortunate technical mistakes which led to their downfall as a team.
“Credit to the Vikings, they played a really great game today as they beat us up and down the field physically. We didn't do anything to help ourselves as there were way too many penalties. That's starts with me. Too many penalties in back to back games. That's unacceptable and you negate it with penalties. That sapped the energy," the Texans head coach proclaimed.
CJ Stroud and the offense already had a gain of 4.7 yards per play but it was this which cost them the game. If this continues to persist, they may not be able to replicate their run to the postseason like last season.
