While mixed martial arts welcomes all fighting disciplines, it’s no secret that wrestling is still king.

It comes as to no surprise that a lot of decorated wrestlers eventually transitioned and found success in mixed martial arts, particularly in the UFC.

From Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo, Yoel Romero, the list goes on. Gable Steveson, considered a generational talent and perfect for MMA, decided to follow the path of Brock Lesnar instead.

The 21-year-old former Olympic gold medalist recently signed a multi-year deal with Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Initially, many thought smaller promotions like Bellator would be main threat for the UFC to landing Steveson.

Turns out, it’s professional wrestling that ultimately pried away what could have been the next great MMA Heavyweight fighter.
