Why the Nebraska Cornhuskers will bounce back
It has not been the best of seasons for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers had a disastrous start to their campaign as they went 1-2, highlighted by bad losses to Northwestern and Georgia Southern.
The stunning defeat to Georgia Southern finally spelled the end for head coach Scott Frost after five seasons with the school, with Mickey Joseph taking over as interim coach.
After suffering a heavy defeat to Oklahoma in his first game in charge, Joseph has gotten the Cornhuskers back on track with consecutive victories against Indiana and Rutgers to go joint-top in the Big Ten West Division.
Tight end Travis Vokolek played a crucial role in their 14-13 road win over Rutgers as he had six catches for 46 yards and scored one of the team's two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, edge rusher Garrett Nelson was an absolute force with 1.5 sacks and 11 total tackles. Nelson has now recorded 3.5 sacks over his last two games and has 4.5 sacks overall this season.
With new defensive coordinator Bill Busch in charge of the unit led by Nelson and defensive lineman Ty Robinson, the Cornhuskers have seen significant improvement on that side of the ball as they kept both Indiana and Rutgers scoreless in the second half.
Granted, there is still a lot of work to do. For instance, the offensive line remains a bit shaky, but the fact that graduate transfer Hunter Anthony is getting more snaps should help.
Nevertheless, those fine performances represent a major step in the right direction for Nebraska, and they bring optimism that they can bounce back from their awful start to finish the season strong.
Meanwhile, a number of Nebraska players have also made a huge move in the right direction by partnering with Fan Arch, which is the place where you can get great gear like hoodies, shirts, and more to show support for your favorite Cornhuskers.
